Fire Emblem: Heroes

I promised myself to post more often, even if I don’t have anything interesting to say…

There’s been a lot of things going on. Among them, I went to my first LARP ever. The people were nice, and I was a mess. But instead of talking about my embarrassing experiences I’ll talk about the new mobile game by Nintendo: Fire Emblem.

Did you ever play a game of this series? They’re strategy /tactical games where you have to maneuver pawns on a battlefield. It’s a bit like chess. I liked the games, but I rarely played  them (I favored Konami’s suikoden tactics). My brother owned them. He used to play Roy and Mars in Super Smash Bros. From there, he went on to buy the Fire Emblem games.

So when I saw my husband playing the game, I was overjoyed and I had to install it too. It plays out the same way it did in the old console and Nintendo has really done a lot to make the controls easy to use on a touch screen (take note Square Enix!).

The only disappointment is that, as many before me have pointed out, the way to obtain heroes is too reminiscing of a game of lottery. You really can’t decide which hero you’ll get. I know you’ll probably say “but Claw, isn’t that just like hearthstones? You can’t pick the cards you get there either”.  But there’s two issues with FE that make it more difficult to jump on that bandwagon:

1) In game currency is expensive. Each hero costs roughly 5 euros, which is a lot of money to lose if you get one you already owned before.

2) Unlike in hearthstones, you cannot trade extras for heroes you don’t own. At most, you can power up one of the duplicates.

All in all, it’s a well crafted game and you don’t need to buy anything to play and have fun. The game doesn’t impose PVP on you, which is a plus, and the story mode is challenging and enjoyable enough.

As you can tell, I’m really hooked.

I don’t really know how to finish this post, so I’ll just say:

Thank you for reading.
